WRI’s programs are designed to create lasting change by addressing the unique challenges faced by women and girls in conflict-affected and underserved communities. Through targeted support in economic empowerment, education, healthcare access, and trauma recovery, our initiatives empower women to lead self-sufficient, dignified lives. Each program is a step toward building stronger communities where women and girls can realize their full potential and contribute to a brighter, more equitable future.
Initiatives are central to WRI’s mission to enhance women’s long-term resilience and independence. WRI works to provide girls and women with access to formal and non-formal education opportunities, with special focus on girls who face barriers such as early marriage or disability. The initiative emphasizes literacy, vocational skills, and life skills training to enable women to pursue diverse opportunities and make informed life choices.
Programs focus on strengthening women’s access to food and economic resources, particularly in regions affected by drought, conflict, or displacement. WRI promotes sustainable agricultural practices and offers vocational training tailored to local economies, allowing women to create and sustain livelihoods. Additionally, through financial literacy and access to microfinance, WRI equips women with the skills to build and manage their own businesses, improving household food security and economic stability

WRI focuses on monitoring and reporting on protection concerns while ensuring that women have access to safe, confidential reporting channels. These programs involve community sensitization to foster safe environments and empower women to advocate for their rights and safety.
Interventions provide women and families with safe, dignified shelter and essential non-food items. WRI emphasizes the importance of culturally appropriate and protective shelter solutions, which help safeguard women from additional risks and offer a sense of stability during crises.
Programs ensure that women and their families have access to safe drinking water, sanitary facilities, and hygiene supplies. By promoting hygiene awareness and building resilient WASH infrastructure, WRI reduces health risks for women and children, particularly in displacement settings where access to these essentials is often limited.
Initiatives enable women to respond to and adapt to climate challenges, including drought and floods, which disproportionately affect Somali communities. WRI supports women-led projects that emphasize sustainable farming, water conservation, and environmental stewardship, equipping communities with the tools to withstand climate-related shocks.

Through advocacy efforts, WRI raises awareness of the challenges faced by women and champions policies that promote gender equality, protection, and women’s empowerment at local, national, and international levels.
As part of our commitment to empowering women and girls, WRI also prioritizes Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in our programs. We provide comprehensive education and services on reproductive health, family planning, and maternal care to ensure that women and girls can make informed decisions about their bodies and futures. Our SRHR activities include community.
WRI is deeply committed to addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through comprehensive prevention and response initiatives. Our GBV program aims to protect women and girls from violence, including domestic abuse, sexual assault, and harmful traditional practices. We offer community education campaigns to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of GBV, challenging harmful gender norms and fostering environments where violence is not tolerated.
Women Resilience Initiative (WRI) supports the empowerment of youth and adolescents through community-based protection and skills development programs. WRI works to strengthen young people’s resilience by promoting safe community structures, leadership opportunities, and access to essential services that enhance their well-being. Our initiatives focus on building life skills, supporting positive social engagement, and ensuring that vulnerable adolescents—especially girls—are equipped with the knowledge and support systems needed to thrive and contribute meaningfully within their communities.

WRI provides training and resources to women leaders in IDP camps to enable better coordination, equitable access to services, and responsive systems that prioritize women’s needs in these settings. By empowering women within the CCCM framework, WRI aims to ensure their active participation in camp decision-making processes.
